To honor this year's Mother's Day celebration, the NLA Good Cause Foundation, a charitable arm of the National Lottery Authority, in partnership with the cares, sponsored a get-together for widows in the Akuapem North Municipality.
According to Sammy Awuku, Director-General of the National Lottery Authority, the gathering was aimed to bring smiles to the faces of widows who are often ignored in society because they lack a voice.
On behalf of the president, as well as the whole management and employees of the National Lottery Authority, he conveyed his congratulations to the widows.
He encouraged them to be cheerful despite of their circumstances and to seek solace from God, as well as assuring them of his support in difficult times.
All of the widows in attendance were also given parcels.
"As part of our mandate in compliance with the NLA Act 722, we utilize the earnings earned from players who do not win to help widows, orphans, mentally and physically handicapped, and also to support the less privileged in society," Sammy Awuku added.
In an interview with the press, Ana Frimpong, the Deputy Coordinator of the NLA Good Cause Foundation, stated that the NLA Good Causes Foundation is intended to spearhead the authority's corporate social responsibility as well as sustain its quest to create a shared value that binds all stakeholders across the country.
The 'Good Causes Foundation,' the charity arm, aims to create, implement, and maintain an integrated action plan based on four primary pillars: education, health, youth and sports development, and culture.
The founder of the Redeemer Cares Foundation, Nana Akosua Oye Dartey Baah, praised the NLA, led by Sammy Awuku, for assisting them in putting smiles on the faces of widows in the Akuapem North Municipality.
She also requested additional corporate funding, as the Foundation plans to make the celebration an annual event and hold a similar event for widowers around Fathers Day celebrations. The recipients expressed gratitude to the NLA and Redeemer Cares Foundation for remembering them and prayed for God's blessings in the next year.
