The People's National Convention (PNC) has requested that the government explore proposing laws to assist single moms in receiving some type of allowance.

The demand was made in a press statement published to commemorate Mother's Day, which was observed on Sunday, May 8.

The PNC claimed this is part of "best practices" abroad that should be copied in the nation in a statement signed by General Secretary Janet Asana Nabla.

As a result, it urges the Executive and Parliament to establish legislation to pay the stipend as soon as possible.

"We are urging the Executive Branch and the Legislature to adopt best practices from other countries and create legislation that gives some type of relief to the disabled."

The PNC lamented the country's rising rate of single parenting and its impact on mothers.

"Single parenting has become more common in recent years, particularly among moms who are responsible for their children alone while their partners are away."

It is so urging the government to provide financial assistance to single moms and to enforce laws against dads who neglect their parenting obligations.

"In the case of absentee dads, we propose that current laws be reviewed to guarantee that fathers who refuse to take responsibility for their children are harshly penalized as a deterrence to others."

"The sad fact is that most women who pursue these dads on their own, such as by going to DOVVSU, Legal Aid, the Juvenile Courts, social assistance, and so forth, eventually give up because the bureaucracy is too much for them."

The party also encouraged the government to establish a program in which organizations like MASLOC and NEIP provide particular financial aid to single moms.

"Once again, we urge the government to establish a program through institutions such as the MASLOC and the NEIP, among others, to provide particular financial services to single moms who are involved in any type of business."
