Report: Manchester City could sign 24-year-old in swap deal, City star keen on leaving the Etihad
Mundo Deportivo claim Manchester City and Barcelona could agree a deal that sees Bernardo Silva move to the Nou Camp – and Frenkie de Jong ends up at The Etihad. They report Silva is keen on leaving Pep Guardiola’s side.
Silva, 27, is just two games away from reaching a huge 250 appearances for Manchester City in just five seasons – having joined the club from Monaco in 2017. He has since had a hand in 98 goals, scoring 48 and creating 50.
He has a contract at City until 2026 but he was rumoured to want to go last summer, since being crucial to Guardiola this season – having a hand in 19 goals. This time, it looks more than likely that he wants a new challenge.
City could use the Portugal star to their advantage, with Xavi keen on having him at the Nou Camp. City, meanwhile, want Netherlands ace de Jong and MD claims a swap deal could be arranged between the two.
Silva for de Jong: A good deal for Manchester City, or Barcelona?
Silva has been incredible for City but he might feel it is time for a new challenge. Guardiola looks likely to guide City to a fourth Premier League title in the five years Silva has spent at City – he may want something new.
De Jong has been good for Barcelona, but has had his critics too. While he has been first choice during his three years at Barca, there was hope he would be the new Iniesta or Xavi – something which has not materialised.
A straight swap? Barcelona might want some cash given de Jong only turns 25 this week, while Silva is 28 in August. But a move suits both parties if Silva is keen on an exit – de Jong would certainly suit City’s style of play
