INTERPLAST has contributed money and supplies to the May 9 charity in support of the relatives of the Accra stadium victims.
The gifts are part of commemorations of the fatal stampede that happened on May 9, 2001, during a soccer match between rivals Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
At least 126 people were killed in the rush, which also left many football fans wounded and their families distraught.
The Accra Stadium disaster on May 9, 2001, is Ghana's most tragic sporting event.
Even though the Ghanaian government established a catastrophe fund to assist the relatives of the victims of the stadium accident, some of the families claim that they have received very little assistance.
Herbert Mensah, as Chairman of Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the time of the Accra stadium catastrophe, has taken personal responsibility for the past 21 years to guarantee that this tragedy is never forgotten and that the victims' families be treated with respect.
Surgery for needy ill children, help for gas explosion victims, support for flood victims and physically impaired persons, and school support for many more relatives of the victims of the Accra stadium accident have all been included in the May 9 commemoration charity programs in recent years.
INTERPLAST has pledged to assist Herbert Mensah's May 9 charity effort as part of their corporate social duty to Ghana's people, without whom their businesses would not be able to survive.
"What I saw and experienced at that stadium on May 9, 2001, altered my life."
It has instilled in us the importance of empathy. We don't want to forget that day, and we don't want it to happen again," Herbert Mensah said during a gift to victims' families.
"It's crucial to stress that none of this would be possible without the cooperation and support of many people.
