According to the Alliance of Drivers Ghana, it is illegal and illegal for a group of drivers to deliberate to raise transportation prices without the Ministry of Transport's approval.

According to the organization, it is illegal for those drivers to raise transportation fares without going through the proper channels. As a result, they have urged Ghanaians to oppose the increase in transportation charges.

"The current fuel and diesel price escalation is a serious issue to truckers and the ordinary Ghanaian," Alliance of Drivers said in a news statement dated May 10, 2022. There have been strong calls for the government to decrease or eliminate some taxes on petroleum products, although the overall amount of taxes on petroleum items currently stands at $4 billion.

Energy debt levy, Road fund, and other charges total GHC 2.90.

"We have every reason to trust that the government understands the pain of ordinary Ghanaians and will do all humanly necessary to ameliorate the detrimental effects of this unjustified increase in international fuel prices, and would therefore not turn a deaf ear to this plea."

"However, by issuing this statement, we specifically state that any union, group of drivers, or person may not unilaterally increase the price of transportation fares without the agreement or authorization of the Transport Ministry or the government."

As a result, it has claimed that any union supporting "this barbarous conduct" lacks legal standing to do so, and so all of their actions are illegal.

Any attempt by anyone to raise transportation fares must be resisted by drivers and passengers.

"With the exception of the 1992 constitution, the country belongs to all of us, and we owe no sovereignty to any group of people."

"Let us all make it a point to follow the law and refrain from any illegal activity," the statement said.
