Williams' importance, Semenyo's work-rate and Martin's threat - Bristol City's season in numbers

Breaking down the facts and figures from Bristol City's 17th place finish in the 2021/22 Championship

Chris Martin's aerial threat was unrivalled

The season is done and dusted and Nigel Pearson summed it up relatively well when describing the overall campaign as a "mixed bag."

A transitional campaign and one that many have been happy to wave goodbye to and await for the changes that will commence over the summer in regards to the dealings in the transfer market.

When fresh blood arrives, it will undoubtedly kick-start that feeling of optimism although the manager has already dampened expectations that there will be wholesale changes due to City's stringent transfer budget.

The aim will be to push towards a top-half finish and perhaps even an outside chance of reaching the play-offs although that is likely to be more hope than expectation. However, it can be done with the right players and mentality with both Huddersfield and Luton setting the bar this season.

While a 17th place finish is underwhelming, City's form towards the end of the campaign suggests they can and probably should be performing higher up the table. The priority will be to fix a leaky defence that has conceded 77 goals throughout the course of the campaign.

2.3 - the average number of shots per game by Antoine Semenyo. It's the highest figure for any City player ahead of Chris Martin (1.8) and the 13th highest in the Championship.

6 - the number of clean sheets kept throughout the season - the joint second lowest in the Championship alongside Peterborough. Reading had the worst record with five.

9 - goals scored on the counter-attack, the most out of City's Championship rivals. It's two more than Birmingham and three more than Coventry.

9 - the total number of penalties conceded, the joint highest alongside Birmingham with Dan Bentley saving two of those. At the other end, the one penalty received is the joint lowest alongside four other clubs.

11 - the number of yellow cards Alex Scott received this season - three more than Antoine Semenyo and Joe Williams. City were shown 87 yellow cards in total, the joint eighth highest.

12.5 - is the percentage of shots on target by Tomas Kalas this season. He had 16 shots in total, getting just two on target. Weimann had the highest percentage totalling 48.1.
