Carlo Ancelotti describes how he will set up Real Madrid against Liverpool as Referee to officiate announced
Carlo Ancelotti is experiencing a comeback.
The Italian coach believed his days among the elite of the elite were numbered. Prior to returning to the Santiago Bernabeu last summer, he worked for Napoli and Everton.
Both are historic football clubs, but neither competes at the top level of European football. Many saw his signing by Real Madrid this offseason as a stopgap measure, a safe hand to usher Los Blancos into a new era.
But he's been much more than that.
Ancelotti has assembled a squad that plays a straightforward, uncomplicated system with devastating skill. He's created an environment that has attracted the best out of a talented group and enjoyed success both at home and in Europe.
Madrid won La Liga with four games to spare and will face Liverpool in the Champions League final on May 28th.
And Liverpool will be a real challenge. Many people consider the Merseyside club to be the best team in Europe right now.
"I think the final will start 0-0, which is a good starting point for us," Ancelotti joked on SiriusXM FC's The Football Show, referring to his team's penchant for dramatic comebacks.
"We're thrilled to be able to compete in the final, and we know we'll be up against a tough team, one of the best in Europe." However, in the Champions League final, you will be pitted against one of the best top teams in Europe.
"We're excited to play this game and will prepare thoroughly." We're going to be 100 percent fit and try to play our game. That is our objective. " You must play with courage and personality in this type of game. We must prepare for our game in order to demonstrate our quality, and Liverpool will do the same. You can't play a game to try to avoid your opponent's quality; you have to do your best to show your own. And we have plenty of it. Liverpool feels the same way. So whoever is the best at doing that will win."
Clément Turpin will oversee the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool at the Stade de France on Saturday 28 May (9pm CEST). The Frenchman will officiate a Real Madrid match for the fifth time in this competition.
The first meeting was in the Group Stage during the 2014/15 season against Ludogorest, which Real Madrid won 4-0. The match against Roma in the 2018/19 Group Stage ended 0-2 for Real Madrid. The third match was a 3-2 victory over Inter Milan at the Alfredo Di Stéfano on matchday three of the 2020/21 Group Stage. The last time was on April 6, this season's Champions League quarter-final first leg between Chelsea and Real Madrid, which Ancelotti's team won 3-1.
