Mohammed Amin Lamptey, Marwako Restaurant's Public Relations Officer, stated that the firm had not anticipated the claimed outbreak of food poisoning among some of its customers on social media.

"It's something we never imagined in our industry as a firm that deals with meals, beverages, and other things," he added.

On Thursday, he told Emefa Apawu on Joy FM's Midday News that the firm began getting complaints on Monday, May 10, from consumers who had purchased meals from its shops on Saturday and Sunday.

Mr. Amin Lamptey said the firm acted quickly in response to the allegations, with some clients already obtaining medical treatment at several hospitals.

In terms of the incident's true cause, he indicated that the business is still undertaking internal investigations to determine that.

He went on to say that the corporation is working with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to remedy the issue, and that the public's help is needed.

Mr. Amin Lamptey further indicated that the firm has accepted responsibility for the incident, which occurred exclusively at the East Legon branch of the corporation.

Meanwhile, the FDA's Acting Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs indicated that the closure of Marwako's East Legon branch was necessary to avoid an increase in reported instances of food poisoning.

Mr. Joseph Beni stated that, while the Authority has not yet determined the source of the poisoning, the eatery's swift closure is standard procedure when such instances are recorded.

On Joy FM's Midday News on Thursday, he informed Emefa Apawu that the shutdown is a starting step in the probe into the extensive complaints on social media.

"You want to stop the flow; you don't want it to go any farther than it already has." So the first reasonable action is to shut down the establishment and begin your inquiry.

"It was shut down to keep people off the grounds while we conduct our investigations," he explained.
