Women Run In Africa And No One Can Fly Without Them - AfDB Boss
Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), urged the Government of Ghana to equip more women economically, socially, politically, and financially to achieve greater progress.
"Women run Africa and no one can fly with wings, so if Africa empowers all its women economically, politically, socially, and financially, Africa will fly like a plane," she said.
The AfDB president made the remarks while leading a delegation from the Bank to review the Pokuase Interchange program on Wednesday.
The Pokuase Interchange project is jointly funded by AfDB for $ 84 million and the Government of Ghana for approximately $ 11 million and was launched in July 2018, to promote sustainable economic growth, comfort, and safe driving for motorists.
It was opened to traffic in July 2021 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Dr. Adesina spoke on other aspects of the project such as the revitalization of the Gobiman Women's Group Center to train women in cake making, baking, soap, and beadwork, and the revitalization of the Manchie Gari Factory to turn cassava into cars and starch, urged the government to empower more women.
He said that would enable the nation to achieve its goals and a positive step in socio-economic development.
Ms. Selina Avevor, Member of Parliament for the Kuntunse Electoral Area, Ga West Municipality, expressed her gratitude to the Government for its intervention in promoting women's development in the project area.
Ms. Avevor, who is also the President of the Gobiman Women’s Association, called on the Government to complete the second phase of the Women’s Group Center project which has started to promote the training of more women in job skills.
