Barcelona could lose a 20-year-old center-back gem this summer
According to journalist Santi Ovalle, young defender Mika Marmol is expected to make Barcelona's pre-season tour squad, but the team may have to put some effort into his renewal process because he has several options.
The 20-year-old left-footed centre-back is widely expected to have a bright future, but despite his success with the junior team, he has yet to make the senior squad.
Marmol has previously piqued the interest of many people. Back in December, it was reported that Sevilla were interested in signing him, but the deal fell through for a variety of reasons.
By December 2021, the 20-year-old had not missed a single minute with Barcelona B, juggling between left-back and thus center-back.
Furthermore, prior to Sevilla identifying him as a possible target, Mallorca, Getafe, and Celtic all attempted to sign him but were unsuccessful.
Borussia Dortmund knocked on the door in January. The Germans are known for producing the most basic young guns and have a brief history with Barcelona, having signed players such as Marc Bartra, Sergio Gomez and Mateu Morey within the past.
While none of the moves have worked out, they haven't given up on trying their luck on Barcelona's young players
But, now that Barcelona has secured a UEFA Champions League spot for next season, Xavi may as well look to give him the necessary minutes in the final few games.
It should be noted that Marmol's contract is still active until 2023, and there has been no movement either from the player’s front or from the team itself.
