The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has announced the closure of two more Marwako Restaurant locations, in addition to the East Legon location.
The FDA said that the two branches were shuttered as part of the continuing investigations into the suspected food poisoning event in a press release issued by its Chief Executive Officer, Delese Mimi Darko.
"As part of the continuing investigations into the suspected food poisoning incident, the FDA, in partnership with the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, has halted all activities of the Abelemkpe branch of Marwarko restaurant, as well as the East Legon branch." "The Marwarko La branch has also been shuttered," the notification said in part.
The authorities also stated that they had visited the victims and collected the requisite samples for testing.
"As part of its inquiry, the Authority also paid visits to Yeboah and Del hospitals in East Legon to get further information on the reported instances of probable food poisoning." The FDA stated, "The Authority's Centre for Laboratory Services and Research has taken relevant samples for further examination to determine the cause of the food poisoning."
The FDA shut down the East Legon branch of the Marwarko Restaurant on Thursday, May 12, following social media claims of food poisoning by people who claimed to have eaten there.
The FDA said in a tweet on Thursday, May 12, 2022, that it, together with other agencies, has begun an inquiry into the potential food poisoning.
The renowned Ghanaian food business has come under fire after multiple Twitter users detailed their trauma after eating at the restaurant.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Amin Lamptey, the restaurant's public relations officer, has stated that the firm accepts responsibility for the event, which occurred on Saturday and Sunday, and that it has visited some of the victims and covered their medical costs.
