Bismark Tawiah Boateng, the former Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged the government to abolish tariffs on petroleum goods.
According to him, this will assist Ghanaians to overcome their economic difficulties.
He claimed that the current hardship was thwarting citizens' efforts, particularly those of traders, business owners, and ordinary Ghanaians.
Mr. Boateng stated in an interview with the Daily Graphic on Monday that it was the government's responsibility to make the people feel better and happier, regardless of economic hardships.
He said that the recent increase in the price of petroleum products at the pump had harmed transportation industry owners, and he called on the government to reverse the recent increase in energy sector levies.
Mr. Boateng believes it is past time for the government to act to save the situation. Traders and company owners were sobbing, he said, since the current situation was impacting their earnings.
Transportation costs
On the subject of transportation prices, Mr. Boateng stated that they will be hiked again shortly, making travelers even more unpleasant when traveling to their various locations.
"The government must pay attention to the plight of Ghanaians and intervene to relieve their misery. "You're supposed to care for the people because they're the ones who put you in power," he explained.
On the party's reorganization, Mr. Boateng stated that the NDC has completed its outreach effort in several constituencies and regions.
He said that the job being done was the reason why the party was still strong on the ground.
Mr. Boateng went on to say that all party members should be patient and wait for the national executive to announce a date for the party's primaries at the appropriate time.
He said that the NDC was ready and set to defeat the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 general election and restore Ghanaians' dreams and ambitions.
