The Accra Regional Court granted the electrical engineer bail of GHS150,000.00 and three warrants for alleged fraud.

The Court ruled that one of the candidates must be a public servant.

Professor Nii Odartey Mills, 61, has been charged with felony criminal mischief.

Evelyn Asamoah's Court of Appeal adjourned the case to June 14, 2022.

The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Fuseini Yakubu, told the court that the complainants, Madam Dorothy Adjei Nortey and Samuel Aryee, were prison officers and retired civil servants, respectively.

The prosecutor said the defendant was an electrical engineer.

ASP Yakubu said in 2016, Prof Mills informed Madam Nortey and Mr. Aryee that he could help their wards to enroll at Monroe Country Community College in Michigan, USA.

The prosecutor said in 2017, the defendant then demanded and collected USD4,500.00 and GHS10,000.00 from Madam Dorothy Adjei Nortey.

ASP Yakubu said the respondent also collected a sum of GHS42,000.00 equivalent to USD4,200.00 from Mr. Samuel Aryee.

Prosecutors said the money would be used “as a fee and tuition in the complainants' wards.

ASP Yakubu said the respondent also collected GHS500.00 from Mr. Aryee as his travel expenses to facilitate the process.

It said the defendant had applied for visas at the US embassy in Accra but the applicants were denied because they said their applications were not supported by school textbooks in the USA.

The prosecutor said the plaintiffs approached the defendant and promised to refund her money but failed.

ASP Yakubu said the report was reported to police, who arrested the suspect.

Further investigation revealed that the respondent had not considered any admission of applicants to Monroe County Community College.
