Petr Cech, the legendary Chelsea goalkeeper, is hoping for "greater luck" for his old team in the FA Cup final against Liverpool. On Saturday, May 14, the Blues will face the Reds at Wembley Stadium. It will be their fourth meeting of the season, with none of the previous three ending in a tie.
Chelsea's last chance to win silverware this season is in the FA Cup. Meanwhile, Liverpool has already won the Carabao Cup. They are still in the Premier League title race and have advanced to the final of the UEFA Champions League.
Despite the obvious differences in how their campaigns have gone, Cech believes the Blues have kept pace with the Reds throughout their matches. He writes in his Chelsea official website column. This season, we have consistently matched Liverpool's performance. In terms of intensity, quickness, and pressing, we've equaled them. That is why these games have been so enjoyable and high-quality.Cech went on to discuss the Carabao Cup final, which was also contested by the two FA Cup finalists. Cech is currently working as an advisor at his former club. After extra time, the game ended goalless, with Liverpool prevailing 11-10 on penalties. Cech commented on this:
"The League Cup final ended in a bizarre manner with us on the losing side, but we are confident that we will have better luck this time. Everyone understands we have to put on a terrific performance to beat them, and the players are prepared for it."
Chelsea and Liverpool have battled it out three times this season.
The two teams first met in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge in August 2021,it ended in a draw.In January of this year, they met for the second time in the league. In the first half hour at Anfield, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah put Liverpool up 2-0. However, towards the conclusion of the first half, Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic scored to tie the game. The game concluded in a 2-2 tie.
In February, they met for the first time in the Carabao Cup final. Despite some excellent football, neither team could reach the back of the net after 120 minutes. After then, the game went to penalties, where both sides' outfield players scored.
However, Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga missed a penalty, while Caoimhin Kelleher scored for Liverpool to win the match and the title.
