Arsenal are reportedly close to completing their first summer signing, with So Paulo striker Marquinhos set to join the Gunners.

The Brazilian giants have already accepted a deal worth £2.5 million, according to Fabrizio Romano, and the documentation is currently being finalized.

The 19-year-old has also agreed to personal terms.

Due to his contract position, Arsenal was able to sign the South American wonderkid for a reasonable price, and Brazilian football critics are surprised.Vampeta, who has 39 caps for Brazil, was speaking on Jovem Pan Esportes about Marquinhos and believes that S. Paulo is being robbed.

"This is ludicrous," the 48-year-old stated. This is ridiculous. Marquinhos will be sold to Arsenal for £2.5 million."

Thiago Asmar, the host of Jovem Pan Esportes, called it a "scandal" before claiming that Marquinhos is truly worth much more.

Clearly, some in Brazil believe Arsenal is getting a good deal on Marquinhos, and we have to concur. His contract had a release clause worth €50 million (£42 million), according to reports.

However, FIFA regulations mean that Marquinhos' contract will expire this summer, rather than in May 2024, as So Paulo had expected.

That's because, according to FIFA, a first contract in Brazil can only last three years - Marquinhos signed his current contract in 2019.

Arsenal will benefit from Marquinho's signing.

The Gunners have done a fantastic job, in our opinion. The Gunners have done a fantastic job, in our opinion.

Even if Marquinhos' time at the Emirates Stadium does not go as planned, Arsenal might still make a profit on the teenager due to the low asking price.

He could, however, follow in the footsteps of Gabriel Martinelli and become a Premier League superstar, so it's a terrific signing for Arsenal in either case.Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhes, who are currently in north London, should be able to assist Marquinhos with his transition.

He should get plenty of playing time under a coach like Mikel Arteta, who clearly believes in young players.

In many ways, this may be one of Arteta's best Arsenal acquisitions.
