Cristiano Ronaldo wins the individual award, while Lionel Messi is beaten in the best player category.

Cristiano Ronaldo's goalscoring exploits were recognized in Dubai, while Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe was named best player, beating out Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowksi.

At the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, Kylian Mbappe was named the 'Best Men's Player of the Year,' beating out his PSG teammate Lionel Messi.

The French forward had a productive 2021 season, scoring 36 goals and assisting on several occasions for PSG.

He did struggle during the European Championships this summer, failing to score as France crashed out in the round of 16.

Mbappe missed the game-winning penalty against Switzerland and was embroiled in a major transfer saga involving a possible move to Real Madrid.

At the start of the season, some PSG fans booed the 23-year-old, but he quickly turned the jeers into cheers, scoring 15 goals and creating 15 more in just 24 games.

Messi won his seventh Ballon d'Or earlier this month in Paris after helping Argentina win the Copa America.

Mbappe barely made the top ten in that poll, with players like Robert Lewandowski, Jorginho, and Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of him.

However, at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, he was named the best player on a night when several individual awards were given out.

Italy's Euro 2020 success was reflected in a number of categories, including coach of the year Roberto Mancini, keeper of the year Gianluigi Donnarumma, best defender Leonardo Bonucci, and national team of the year Azzurri.

Chelsea was named the best club team in the world after Thomas Tuchel led the Blues to their second Champions League title.

Cristiano Ronaldo was recognized for breaking the men's international goalscoring record in a year in which he also set an all-time high with 800 senior goals.

In October, the Manchester United superstar broke Ali Daei's long-standing record of 115 goals.

Lewandowski also won a couple of awards, including the Maradona Award and TikTok Player of the Year.

Txiki Begiristain, the CEO of Manchester City, was named sporting director of the year, while Federico Pastello was named agent of the year.

Alexia Putellas was named the Best Female Player in the women's category, adding to her Ballon d'Or victory.
