Mr. Kwasi Wih, National Director, Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate (PPRD) of the Department of Food and Agriculture, advised farmers to look for good quality seeds in storefronts so that the little fertilizer they add will ensure they get a good harvest. the idea of ??rising installation costs.

 

In an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA) next to the exhibition, organized by the Market Oriented Agriculture Program, Mr. Wih said, “with improved and hybrid seeds and less fertilizer and pesticides, a farmer can still produce crops. on their farms. ”

 

Mr. Wih encouraged and added that the farmer should check the packages recommended by the regulator with the manufacturer's sticker indicating the type of seed, year of production, annual seed tested, and germination capacity and ensure full validity.

 

The Director of the PPRD said the Sissala area was one of the areas known for grain production.

Advise farmers to make sure they buy hybrid seeds at seed stores.

 

Mr. Wih said: "I have worked in the Upper West region and I have seen that people plant seedlings and in ten years they are not productive, so we want farmers to get a return on their planting which is why seedling certification programs."

 

“I am also in the region to participate in the seed show and to represent the Department of Food and Agriculture and to ensure that our seedling program enables farmers to get quality seedlings to start a strong seedling program so that all seed producers are successful. they are licensed and their facilities are monitored and managed to produce certified and improved seedlings that are good for farmers, ”he added.

 

Mr. Mbanya Wuni Issah, Technical Advisor on the GIZ MOAP-North West project said the focus was on delivering quality seeds and agricultural products to farmers' departments in an affordable way.

 

He disclosed that MOAP in the North West is working with more than 150 agricultural suppliers and seed growers and more than 70 companies to ensure the availability of seeds and agricultural inputs in the region to farmers.

 

Mr. Fuseini Yakubu, Chief Executive Officer of Sissala East Municipality appealed to local farmers who have the capacity to supply the nation with enough maize and other grains.

 

He urged the organizers to organize similar exhibitions in all regions of Northern Ghana and keep it a seasonal event so that people can connect, share ideas, discover better practices, innovations, and new technologies and build relationships for the coming season.

 

The seed and inputs exhibition was first organized in 2021 in Wa, to bring together seed suppliers, exhibitors, and farmers to work together.

 

The exhibition had the theme: “Bringing quality certified seeds and other agricultural products to the farmers' door.”
