Following the decision of the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) to terminate the membership of its Leader, David Apasera, and National Chairman, Moses Dani Baah, internal wranglings within the People's National Convention (PNC) have intensified.
They were fired for violating the party's constitution, which reads that "A member of the Party who is in breach of the foregoing shall be entitled to dismissal under this Constitution, unless otherwise approved by the National Delegates' Congress following an appeal by the said member of the Party."
The decision to dismiss the two was announced in a communiqué published following the party's NEC meeting in Accra yesterday. It claimed that the party's head and national chairman had a history of breaking the party's constitution, disrupting the achievement of the party's joint goals and derailing its growth.
Recall
The decision to fire the two comes after the party's head, Mr Apasera, gave a news conference last Friday, May 6, 2022, to announce the indefinite suspension of six members of the regional and national leadership for violating Article 67 of the party's constitution.
Bala Maikankan, the party's Greater Accra Regional Chairman; Sulemana Seidu, the Ashanti Regional Secretary; Suale Karim, the Northern Regional Secretary; Muniru Seidu, the Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser; Samuel Adeyfio, the Central Regional Secretary; and the Central Regional Youth Organiser were among those suspended.
Their suspension was also the result of a petition to the disciplinary committee for the required recommendations to be made in relation to a fictitious NEC meeting held in Kumasi during which the suspended leadership was determined to have broken the party's constitution.
Please step aside.
The NEC also directed 12 national and regional executive of the party, who attended the purported Standing Committee meeting convened by Messrs Apasera and Dani Baah, that took the decision to suspend the six regional and national executive for indiscipline, to step aside from their respective positions pending disciplinary hearings, said Janet Nabla, who read the communiqué at a press conference.
