Fredrick Opare-Ansah, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary contender, claims that the citizens' present problems are not unique to Ghana.

Due to the consequences of the Covid-19 epidemic and the recent Russia-Ukraine crisis, he claimed the present economic slowdown is a worldwide concern.

Frederick Opare-Ansah, in an appearance on JoyNews' The Pulse on Friday, said the President has done very well despite the hurdles.

"President Akufo-Addo, I feel, has failed. However, I feel that things are challenging, as the President has stated, and as the Finance Minister has also stated, but it is also true that the current issues that we as Ghanaians confront are not unique to us.

"It's a global phenomenon affected by two key reasons. However, many people, particularly our political opponents, refuse to accept that Covid-19 has had a significant impact on the global economy, as has the Russian-Ukraine conflict, but I believe that the President has kept many of the major promises he made in the NPP manifesto and during the numerous campaigns.

Despite global economic concerns, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has underlined the government's determination to modernize Ghana.

Dr. Bawumia said the Akufo-Addo government has been focusing on fundamental structural changes in the Ghanaian economy by transitioning from an emphasis on the production of raw commodities to value addition, speaking at the Pentecost Convention Centre in Millennium City, Kasoa, on Thursday, April 22.

Dr. Bawumia went on to say that this will address the critical need to restructure the structure of Ghana's economy and make it more responsive to current circumstances, particularly as the globe enters the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

"Virtually every administration in our history has recognized the need for Ghana to diversify its economy and move its focus away from the production of basic commodities and toward value addition." Dr. Bawumia stressed that this is a crucial pillar of Nana Akufo-Ghana Addo's Beyond Aid strategy.
