GES Outdoors Training Manual For Special and Inclusive Education Teachers.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has launched a training manual for teachers to enable them to teach kids with disabilities and special needs, with help from the World Bank and UNICEF.

 

This is part of the Service's inclusive education goal, which aims to integrate special kids with mainstream students in conventional schools to ensure that all children receive a comprehensive education and development.

 

At the introduction, Dr Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, Deputy Director-General of the GES in charge of Quality and Access, said the manual would assist teachers, particularly in ordinary schools, in receiving training in how to teach children with special needs and disabilities.

 

"The training handbook has looked at ideas and best practices on inclusive education from around the world, as well as how instructors might be prepared," he stated.

 

According to Dr. Tandoh, the Service is also lobbying for the use of universal design techniques in educational facilities and the integration of training for disabled and special students into regular education.

He stated that the government intended to accomplish the Sustainable Development Goal Four aim of all children being able to get an education without barriers through its inclusive education program.

 

Dr. Tandoh stated that they had began assessing pupils in schools to determine their "special" needs so that stakeholders may plan accordingly.

 

Professor Emmanuel Kofi Gyimah, the training handbook's Lead Consultant, explained that the document was divided into two sections: theory and practical training.

 

The theory portion, he explained, concentrated on definitions and explanations of inclusive education concepts, while the practical portion focused on how teachers could educate and make the classroom inclusive.

 

He stated that inclusive education entailed "mixing" exceptional pupils with others in a classroom setting.

 

Professor Gyimah said the manual took two years to prepare and included scenario research as well as surveys from stakeholders such as parents, children, and instructors.

 

In 2015, Ghana's government released the Inclusive Education Policy, which outlined the government's strategic plan for the education of all children with special educational needs.?
