GES closes schools in Koforidua due to Daasebre Oti Boateng’s funeral.
The funeral of Daasebre Oti Boateng has forced GES to close schools in Koforidua.
The Ghana Education Service's Eastern Regional Directorate has ordered all schools in Koforidua to close on Monday.
This is in light of the large audience expected in Koforidua on Monday for the final funeral ceremonies of the late Daasebre Oti Boateng, the Paramount Chief of New Juaben, and Nana Yaa Daani, the Queenmother.
In addition, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will lay in state on Monday while the final funeral rites are performed before their interment.
Thousands of mourners accompanied President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and former President J.A. Kufuor on Saturday to pay their final respects.
Ministers of State and other officials from the past and present also paid their tributes.
As part of the week of traditional funeral customs for the departed royals, the President and Vice President signed the book of condolences opened at the Yiadom Hwediem Palace in honour of the late Paramount Chief and Queen.
Daasebre Oti Boateng, 83, reigned from 1992 until August 20, 2021, when he passed away, while Nana Yaa Daani, 67, reigned from 2000 until her death earlier this year.
Mourners dressed in red and black flocked to the Yiadom Hwediem Palace and funeral grounds to pay their respects to the late chief and queen, as is customary.

The Central Region Police are probing the circumstances surrounding the death of a level 300 student from the Cape Coast Technical University at OLA Estate in Cape Coast on Friday night.
Nana Ama Clark's body was discovered minus her private parts in a pool of blood.
Around 9:00 p.m. on Friday, police received information that a female adult had been discovered dead by the roadside at OLA Estate, near the OLA College of Education in Cape Coast.
According to the police, they arrived at the scene and discovered the body of an unknown woman, aged around 24, lying naked with her private part'vagina' chopped off and bruises all over her body.
Residents in the region are outraged by the incident and are calling for an investigation. The onus is on the police to apprehend and prosecute the criminals.
Residents ruled out the possibility that the 24-year-old was killed by a hit-and-run vehicle. Residents claim that the circumstantial evidence does not support an accident but rather a skillfully coordinated scheme, even before the police finish their investigations.
Residents of OLA Estate are also requesting that the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly repair the area's broken street lights.
The entire OLA-Bakaano section, where the event occurred, is completely dark at night, and neighbors believe that the darkness encourages criminals to commit such crimes.
Nana Ama Clark's remains has been laid to rest at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital mortuary pending additional investigation.
Meanwhile, the mother of the dead has been notified by the police, and investigations are continuing.
