Frank Lampard retains Everton conviction after Brentford loss
Everton coach Frank Lampard lamented an early red card in his side's see-saw 3-2 loss to Brentford at Goodison Park on Sunday, yet said their Premier League survival hopes stay in their own hands.
Everton took an early lead and thoroughly searched in unlimited oversight of the game until a red card for 19-year-old points back Jarrad Branthwaite on 18 minutes turned the apparatus in the blessing of the visitors.
Lampard felt his side should have had a penalty in the passage of play in front of the sending off when Richarlison had his shirt pulled in the Brentford box, however the visitors skillfully cashed in on their mathematical benefit.
"It's simple. We had control of the game. We seemed as though we would score more goals and dominate the match. The red card changes everything," Lampard told BBC Sport.
"The first 20 minutes felt agreeable. The group were flying. No complaints about the players. (However, you can't play with 10 people for 70 minutes in the Premier League and anticipate significantly more.
"Perhaps Richarlison should go down more easily with the shirt pull however no complaints about the red card, it is a mistake by Jarrad."
Everton are two points above Burnley in the third transfer position with the two teams having two fixtures remaining.
Lampard's side are also one point in front of Leeds United, whose last round of the mission is at Brentford, where they must win to stand a possibility jumping the Merseyside club given their vastly mediocre goal contrast.
Next up for Everton is a home game against Crystal Palace on Thursday, before they visit Arsenal on Sunday.
"Ideally, Michael Keane, who was sick for the time being, comes back. We have three points halves out and it's extremely difficult to sustain results like that.
"We will battle until the end regardless of anything else bodies we have left. We just need to rest a little, stay positive, it's in our hands and we'll go once more."
