"I wish," Lionel Messi's father says of his son's desire to get back to Barcelona
Lionel Messi's departure from Barcelona last summer stunned the football world.
The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner had spent his entire career at Barcelona and few could have predicted his departure.
However, due to the Catalans' financial situation last year, they were unable to renew his contract, despite the 34-year-old agreeing to halve his wages. Finally, Argentina's captain said an emotional farewell to the Barcelona faithful before joining PSG on a Bosman deal.
Rumours of his possible return to Camp Nou have circulated since he left.
And now, his father, Jorge Messi, has spoken out on the possibility of his son, the former Barcelona captain, returning to the club in the future.
When asked if he wanted Messi to return to Barça in the future, his father replied (h/t Gerard Romero): "I wish!"
Messi left Barcelona after winning ten La Liga titles, four UEFA Champions League titles, and numerous other trophies, as well as a slew of personal accolades.
Messi did not have the best start to life in Paris, but he has improved in the second half of the season, helping Mauricio Pochettino's side win Ligue 1.
The Argentine superstar has 33 appearances for Les Parisiens across all competitions , eleven goals and thirteen assists
Messi agreed to a two-year deal with PSG, with the option to extend it for another year. Despite all of the speculation, a return to Barcelona appears unlikely, with president Joan Laporta also implying the same not long ago.
Jorge Messi, Lionel Messi's father, has expressed a desire for his son to return to Barcelona at some point in the future.
The Argentine forward left the Blaugrana for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer last summer after contract negotiations with president Joan Laporta fell through.
"Hopefully one day," Jorge Messi said when reporters at Barcelona Airport asked if his son would return to the Catalan club.
