Newcastle are apparently interested in signing Roma manager Jose Mourinho, although 'The Special One' may need convincing.

Under Eddie Howe, the Magpies have made a stunning comeback, avoiding relegation and aiming to finish in the middle of the Premier League standings this season. Despite his achievements, it appears that the former Bournemouth manager's job is in jeopardy.

Following the resignation of Steve Bruce in late October, the Toon chose Howe after being passed over by Unai Emery and Jose Mourinho. However, it appears that the club's ambitious new owners are still looking for a European manager.Newcastle haven't given up hope of selecting Mourinho as manager, according to MARCA, and are reportedly trying to entice the former Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham manager back to the Premier League. The Toons, on the other hand, appear to have their job cut out for them.

When asked about his future at Roma and the possibility of returning to the Premier League, the Portuguese coach told Sky Sports: "Everything is peaceful right now because I have two more years on my deal.

"The club did not approach me to try to extend my contract, so I was not forced to agree or decline. Everything is quiet and stable, which is exactly as it should be.I have to finish the season as best we can and start next season 100 percent because I am not looking for a change, and my teammates know it. I couldn't quit the club in my second season, no way. So I'll be here next season."

Despite the fact that the comments have dealt Newcastle another setback in their pursuit of Mourinho, the Magpies may try to use the 59-year-emotional old's tie to Newcastle to tempt him away from the Italian capital. Despite the fact that Mourinho did not follow Sir Bobby Robson to Tyneside as his No.2 in 1999, the current Roma manager has previously acknowledged that he has a soft spot for Newcastle due to his former mentor's long-standing relationship with the cluI have to finish the season as best we can and start next season 100 percent because I am not looking for a change, and my teammates know it. Mourinho recently expressed his admiration for Newcastle and praised Howe for his efforts since being appointed in November. "Through Sir Bobby's eyes and heart, I learnt what Newcastle is and how to like the club very much, and I'm really delighted that they rediscovered their stability," Mourinho concluded.Eddie is doing an excellent job. The club provided him with the necessary resources to make a shift in the January market, and I wish them well."

In the January transfer window, Howe spent about £90 million on players like Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, and Bruno Guimaraes, thanks to the club's new Saudi-led ownership. Given Howe's success, it's unlikely the Magpies will look for a new manager, but with trophies on the horizon, who better to guide the team to victory than Mourinho?
