Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are the latest Liverpool players to be injured ahead of the match against Southampton & Update on return

LIVERPOOL are hoping that Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk's injuries won't keep them out for long.

Klopp evaluates Liverpool's FA Cup triumph

Liverpool are hopeful that Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will be fit for the Champions League final next week, according to reports. Both received knocks in the Reds' FA Cup victory over Chelsea, which gave them a domestic cup double.

After failing to score after 120 minutes, Jurgen Klopp's side won 6-5 on penalties, but Salah, Van Dijk, and Andy Robertson were all forced to withdraw at Wembley due to injuries. Salah's was the most concerning, as he trudged off after only 30 minutes, whereas Van Dijk was taken off before extra time. Robertson's problem was a simple muscle cramp.

Egypt's Salah, on the other hand, suffered a more serious groin injury, though Klopp revealed after the game that the winger had said he could play on if necessary. The German had a similar conversation with Van Dijk, but while he played the full 90 minutes, the Dutchman was replaced by Joel Matip before the extra 30 minutes.

According to the Daily Mirror, neither of the pair are expected to be risked when Liverpool face Southampton at St Mary's on Tuesday night.

The Merseyside club knows that a win there would put them one point behind league leaders Manchester City on the final day of the season.

City drew 2-2 at West Ham just 24 hours after Liverpool won the FA Cup final, giving Klopp and co renewed hope of winning the club's 20th league title this weekend. However, they must first close the gap by defeating Southampton. And they'll have to do it without key players Salah and Van Dijk, as Liverpool don't want to aggravate the problems they had against Chelsea.

"I felt a twinge behind my knee in the first half when I sprinted," Van Dijk said after the game.

Hopefully, everything will be fine." When asked if he'll be fit for the Champions League final against Real Madrid on May 28, Salah said in the mixed zone, "Of course."

Klopp is likely to make several changes to his team with Wolves visiting Anfield on Sunday and Real Madrid visiting Paris six days later as Liverpool seeks a seventh European Cup.

Matip is almost certain to return to the starting XI on the south coast, while Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, and Roberto Firmino will also fancy their chances.

It is unknown whether Salah or Van Dijk will be available to face Wolves, but it is expected that they will be fit for the trip to the French capital.

Liverpool also anticipates the return of defensive midfielder Fabinho at the Stade de France. The Brazilian was forced off early in last week's midweek win over Aston Villa, but Klopp has stated that he will "certainly be back" to face his former club Los Blancos.

If Liverpool defeats Southampton, they will need three points against Wolves on Sunday, as well as a favor from former captain Steven Gerrard. The Liverpool manager takes Aston Villa to the Etihad Stadium to face City, and a draw and a Liverpool win would be enough to crown Klopp's side champions.
