What Arsenal requires in order to qualify for the Champions League following their embarrassing loss at Newcastle

The Gunners were defeated 2-0 at St James' Park on a disappointing night in which they surrendered the lead in the race for the top four to Tottenham.

Arsenal will need an unlikely result from already-relegated Norwich City to finish in the top four after being beaten deservedly at Newcastle.

The Gunners were defeated 2-0 at St James' Park on Monday evening, handing rivals Tottenham Hotspur the top-four lead on a disastrous night.

In the 56th minute, Ben White deflected a Callum Wilson effort into his own net to give the Magpies the lead, which was quickly followed by Bruno Guimaraes up another Wilson effort to double the lead late on.

In truth, Arsenal deserved nothing from the game, and the defeat leaves them two points behind Spurs - whom they lost 3-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last week - ahead of the season's final weekend.

Spurs are now fourth in the table with 68 points from 37 games, while Arsenal have 66 points from 37 games.

On Sunday, Antonio Conte's side travels to Carrow Road to face Norwich, while Arsenal hosts Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

Given Spurs' vastly superior goal difference (+24 compared to +9), Conte's side now only needs a draw against their already relegated hosts to qualify for the Champions League, something they will be hoping for.

Arsenal will need to beat Everton and hope Norwich pulls off a surprise against Tottenham.

Conte said after Sunday's 1-0 win over Burnley, "It's not easy to play against Burnley."

"They put our nerves to the test because getting three points was critical." We needed to complete our mission and win to put pressure on Arsenal." We are well aware that playing against Newcastle is difficult, especially since the arrival of the new manager.

"They're on a roll, and it's not going to be an easy game." I'll watch the game because I love football and I want to suffer while watching."
