Former Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has urged the Bundesliga champions to explore a deal for Harry Kane if Robert Lewandowski leaves in the summer. The Poland international could leave the Allianz Arena in the coming weeks, with Barcelona keen in signing him.

Since joining Bayern from Borussia Dortmund in 2014, Lewandowski has established himself as one of Europe's most dangerous forwards, scoring 343 goals in the process. The 33-year-old, whose contract expires in the summer of 2023, has refused to commit his future to the club, despite Barcelona's interest.

Boateng has advised Bayern to chase Tottenham talisman Kane if Lewandowski's services are lost in the summer, describing the England captain as a "perfect striker."

According to Sky Sports Germany, he said: "Personally, I would rush to sign Harry Kane for Bayern Munich. This is my viewpoint. This striker, in my opinion, is a complete striker who scores goals on a daily basis for Tottenham in a good but not world-class team. If he plays for a team like Bayern, I believe he will be a wonderful replacement at a young age. Bayern Munich is in charge of this."

With Tottenham on the verge of qualifying for next season's Champions League, it's unclear whether Kane will consider leaving in the summer. Last year, the 28-year-old was desperate to leave Spurs in order to compete for titles, but Antonio Conte's arrival has resurrected the north London club.

If Kane proves unachievable, Bayern will have to think outside the box if they want to keep Lewandowski. Lewandowski is expected to have suitors from all around Europe, in addition to Barcelona.

Although Lewandowski's desire to leave Bayern Munich has startled some, Boateng admits that he is not surprised that his former team-mate is looking for a fresh challenge in his latter years.

He added: "It didn't surprise me. Because of the progress, you could see it. It's understandable for a guy like him to want to try something different at some point. We all go through similar phases and thoughts. I believe you can reach an agreement on both sides without making a fuss. It's challenging, but now that the summer vacation is over, there's enough time to come up with a suitable solution that benefits both parties.

"It is critical that both parties are satisfied at the end of the process. Robert now wishes to go in the summer. 'No,' Bayern says right now. That's understandable, but they still have the rest of the summer to find replacements. Other people have had similar experiences.

"It was possible since Thiago also wanted to travel. It would be ideal if a solution could be found that would benefit both Lewy and Bayern in the future. That is the most crucial."
