Chelsea are allegedly keen to sign Sevilla's versatile defender Jules Kounde as soon as Ted Boehly's £4.25 billion takeover of the west London club is finalised and UK Government sanctions are lifted.

According to GOAL.com, the Blues are eager to complete the transaction as quickly as possible, with numerous defenders departing the club for free after the club was unable to renew their contracts.

Chelsea reportedly agreed to sign Kounde last year, but the deal fell through due to Sevilla's demands and the lateness of the negotiations.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has already reassured supporters that new owner Boehly is determined to making the club 'competitive.'

'We will share our opinion in greater detail over the coming weeks, and I am confident he is as ambitious as we are to construct a competitive Chelsea for the top level,' Tuchel added.

'He paid for it, therefore I don't think he's willing to give up the dream.'

Sevilla are apparently demanding £59 million for Kounde, who has already won the Europa League with the Spanish side, and need roughly £38 million to balance their books by the end of June.

Sevilla, on the other hand, wants the move to be completed soon so they can replace the French defender.

Following the revelations that Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger will move for Barcelona and Real Madrid, respectively, Chelsea are looking to sign a top class defender.

The Blues have other possibilities at centre defence and are unlikely to sign only one high-quality player in that position, but they want to make the Frenchman the first signing of the Boehly era.

Kounde, who can play both centre back and right back, is thought to have reached a deal with Sevilla to leave in the summer.

Chelsea are keen for the takeover transaction to be completed as quickly as possible, with players like N'Golo Kante, Jorginho, Marcos Alonso, and club captain Cesar Azpilicueta having only one year left on their contracts.
