Address the source of the power theft problem, says Prof Hugh Aryee of ECG.

ECG proposes a tariff increase of 148%.

PURC received a proposal.

The adjustment is valid between 2019 and 2022.

Prof Hugh Aryee, Honorary Professor of The Academic Union, Oxford, UK, and an energy thought leader, has advised the Electricity Company of Ghana to investigate the causes of the power theft problem and address it more efficiently and effectively.

On GTV Current Affairs' Focus on Wednesday, the Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Hanergy Global Ghana Limited said, "any organization that fails to conduct research and use data to solve problems and challenges will continue to have the same problems haunting them in the future."

He is not happy about the power theft problem that ECG is facing, but he believes that until the company digs deep to address the source of the problem, the problem will not go away.

When discussing realistic charges, he stated that realistic charges must take into account not only the cost of production but also the financial and economic realities of consumers. Poor consumers should not pay for the organization's efficiencies.

On nuclear energy, he observed that, while nuclear power plants do not burn fuel and thus do not emit greenhouse gases, which is a good thing, Ghana has yet to complete its nuclear programs over the past 60 years due to the large capital required for such projects.

"Considering the cost and the fact that Ghana has not yet discovered uranium," he suggested, adding, "in the interim, the government should quickly tap into available and ready alternative sources such as wave energy from the sea, wind energy, and biofuels to solve our energy challenges."

Hanergy Global, according to the Ghana CEO CEO Awards' COO of the Year, has introduced several innovative products into the Ghanaian market, the most notable of which is Ultran Energy, the world's first electrical current optimization and energy-saving device without voltage reduction.

"When installed, ULTRA energy guarantees at least a 17 percent energy savings." Because of its small size and simple design, ULTRA can be installed parallel to an electrical system in less than an hour. "ULTRA reduces CO2 emissions by lowering energy consumption," he explained.

Prof. Aryee stated that Ultra's patented technology increases electrical efficiency while decreasing overall energy consumption, and that the device has been authenticated by the Energy Commission of Ghana and approved as safe for use in Ghana by the Ghana Standards Authority and other regulatory bodies.

Hanergy Global also installs solar energy products and is involved in a number of joint ventures with other leading multinational corporations to introduce other alternative energy sources into the Ghanaian market.

Hanergy Global was named the Most Creative and Innovative Tech Innovation Company in the Africa Digitalisation Space at the prestigious African Technovate Awards in April of this year.
