According to a new rumor, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is considering bringing back former Elite Development Squad coach and Premier League 2 winner Enzo Maresca as an assistant coach.

While Pep Guardiola deserves credit for Manchester City's spectacular success, it's important to remember that the Spanish tactician has put together an acclaimed coaching staff to work alongside him behind the scenes.

Juanma Lillo, the Spaniard's assistant coach, has over four decades of coaching experience, both at club and international level, having replaced the now-Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta last season.

Similarly, another of Pep Guardiola's Manchester City assistants has had a stellar career thus far, managing Barcelona's young teams from the U11s to the U18s, as well as Liverpool's U18 and U23 sides, demonstrating his tremendous football pedigree.

It appears that the Catalan Manchester City manager wants to enhance his coaching team even more by bringing back another excellent football mind.

According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, Pep Guardiola is considering bringing Enzo Maresca back to Manchester City as an assistant coach for the upcoming season.

It has also been reported that the Italian, who led Manchester City's Elite Development Squad (EDS) to the Premier League 2 title in the 2020/21 season, is likely to return to the club.

Finally, Enzo Maresca's outstanding work with Manchester City's U23s earned him his most recent management position at Parma in Serie B.

However, in November of last year, he was fired by the Italian club after his team won four, drew five, and lost five of their 14 competitive matches - a dismal record for a team vying for promotion at the end of the season.

Despite the fact that things did not work out in Italy, Pep Guardiola may be willing to overlook it given Enzo Maresca's impressive CV, which includes stints as an assistant manager at clubs such as Ascoli, Sevilla, and West Ham before his time at Manchester City.
