Madrid interested in 18-year-old striker dubbed as the ‘new Haaland’ – reportPublished 6 hours agoon May 20, 2022By Adithya Eshwarla
If one were to discuss about the world’s most potent forward lines in football, Real Madrid would find themselves as one of the list toppers.
The France international and current crowned laliga heavyweight champions Karim Benzema has undoubtedly been the best striker over the past year at real Madrid since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and has struck up a terrifying partnership with Vinicius Jr in Los Blancos‘ attack. At the same time, one cannot forget Rodrygo Goes whose rise to prominence has been astronomical in the past year.
Add to that list Kylian Mbappe who is close to sealing a move to Real Madrid and the team’s potency in the final third goes through the roof. Needless to say, the Madrid based club’s attacking options seem to be stacked.
However, the one shortcoming in the department is the lack of a young and talented striker. While Benzema is indeed stacking goals, he is already 34 years of age and cannot go on for much longer.
Mariano Diaz and Luka Jovic were both brought into the team in the hope of developing into world-class strikers. However, both the players have failed to live up to the expectations, forcing the club to look for other options.
According to reports from Diario AS, Real Madrid are interested in RB Salzburg talent Benjamin Sesko. At just 18-years of age, the Slovenian international promises over a decade of service with a very high ceiling.
The Slovenian has started eight games in the Bundesliga this season, scoring five goals and providing one assist. He averages just under one key pass per game and has created two big chances.
Sesko has been popularly called the ‘mini-Haaland’ by fans of the club and has not shied away from talking about the comparisons. When asked about his nickname, he said:
“Such comparisons motivate me and give me energy. They do not represent pressure. I will listen and learn so I can be even better than he is.”
