Ghanaians have been reminded to remain wary and on the lookout for any potential terrorist threats.
Terrorism has been a big source of worry in Africa, particularly in West Africa and the Middle East, following terrorist strikes in several African nations.
In recent years, terrorists have struck countries such as Togo and Cote d'Ivoire. This has led to worries among Ghanaians that terrorists may infiltrate the country. As a result, several security experts have issued warnings to citizens to remain vigilant.
Following warnings from the National Security that the country is a target for terrorists, Dr. Festus Aubyn, Regional Coordinator of the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding, has called on schools to improve their security procedures.
"As school administrators, they should guarantee that security measures are in place at schools." School security is essential, especially with the increased threat of terrorism... As a result, parents and even kids must be aware of their internet activity...
In an interview with Ghana News Agency, he stated, "There is solid cause to assume that terrorists operating inside the area have Ghana as a target, and there is a need to improve security measures and urge the people to be more cautious."
Collins Owusu Amankwah, a former Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, addressed the subject at a panel discussion show on Peace FM called "Kokrokoo," and sought to assuage citizens' anxieties.
Despite admitting terrorist attacks in neighboring countries and asking Ghanaians to be security-conscious to avert terrorism in the motherland, Hon. Owusu Amankwah thought that "Ghana is safe." Anyone who believes Ghana is insecure is a liar, according to him, and should be ignored. Anyone who believes Ghana is insecure is a liar, according to him, and should be ignored.
