Attorneys for Josephine Panyin Mensah, the 28-year-old woman accused of pregnancy and kidnapping, have told the press that three defense witnesses will be called.

The accused individual will be one of the witnesses, according to the attorney, Fiifi Buckman.

He emphasized that other people wanted to testify, but that what is important is the quality of the witnesses, not the number of witnesses who confirm a case.

Following the hearings on Thursday, lawyer Fiifi Buckman spoke to journalists in an interview.

Meanwhile, the counsel for the accused individual has been directed by the Takoradi Circuit Court 'A' to file their witness testimony. The court stated that the filling should be completed by June 7, 2022, the next adjourned date.

According to the Court, the action was taken as part of the Case Management Conference (CMC) to allow the accused to present her case.

At the previous sitting, the court overturned the accused's counsel, Fiifi Buckman, who had submitted a no-case submission, and ordered the accused to commence her defense.

This was following the testimony of eight prosecution witnesses in the case.

Counsel for the accused contended in his no-case argument that the prosecution had failed to prove a prima facie case against his client, allowing her to start her defense.

The court, on the other hand, disagreed, stating that the prosecution had been able to prove that the accused was neither abducted nor pregnant.

The prosecution was able to provide the court with all of the necessary materials to support the allegations of false news publishing and public official deception brought against the accused.

By starting her defense, the court suggested that it was incumbent on the accused to establish that she was actually pregnant.

When the matter was called today, the judge, His Honour Michael Ampadu, stated that the issue is of national importance and that all sides should work together to have it resolved quickly. The case was then delayed until June 7, 2022.
