The Eastern Regional Security Council has denied that the claimed ritual murder, which was caught on film and widely circulated on social media, took place in the region.
According to Seth Acheampong, the Eastern Regional Minister, the claims are untrue and should be handled with disdain.
Mr. Acheampong stated in a statement that the whole story and video do not reflect the facts.
"The whole narrative and video purporting to have transpired in Koforidua in the Eastern Region that is being disseminated on social media from an unknown source is completely fake and must be handled with the disdain that it deserves," the statement said.
A video circulating on social media depicts some guys slaughtering people for rituals at a hideaway said to be in or around Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Regional State.
The video's content has also been attributed to the late Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Oti Boateng, and the Queen Mother, Nana Yaa Daani II, who were recently buried.
The connection between the video and the funeral stems from a decree issued by the New Juaben Traditional Council on the night of May 16 urging inhabitants to remain indoors.
However, the Eastern Regional Minister stated that the declaration was made in accordance with customs and traditions, as well as to honor the late Omanhene of the region.
During the burial ceremonies, appropriate security personnel were posted at the funeral grounds, in and around Koforidua, and such an occurrence could not have occurred, according to the Regional Minister.
He stated that the region is calm and secure. Residents were also promised that "security authorities would continue to work diligently to maintain regional safety, peace, and security."
