Jurgen Klopp praised Everton and sends Steven Gerrard a'serious' Liverpool statement
If Liverpool are to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title, they will need a favor from Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa.
Jurgen Klopp admits it's natural for Steven Gerrard to be motivated to help Liverpool's title bid this weekend, but he won't be concerned about what's going on at Manchester City.
The Reds manager has also congratulated Everton on their thrilling 3-2 comeback against Crystal Palace last night, which secured top flight status.
The league title will be decided on Sunday afternoon, with the Reds trailing leaders City by a point heading into the final round of games
While Liverpool host Wolverhampton Wanderers, Pep Guardiola's Manchester City host Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa, knowing that failure to win would allow Klopp's side to claim the title.
And Klopp believes it's no surprise that the Anfield legend wants to help his boyhood club.
"I can only understand these situations by imagining myself in that role," the Reds manager explained. "If I could play a game that would benefit Dortmund and Mainz, it would provide me with extra motivation. That's the way it is." But I don't play, and neither does Stevie. It's unfortunate - far more unfortunate that Stevie isn't playing than that I am! To have these kinds of feelings, we are all human beings to have this kind of things.
Stevie will take it very seriously. Without my calling him, I'm certain. I'm not required to. The rest of the club probably did it already, but I didn't!"
Crystal Palace's performance against Everton on Thursday was cited by Klopp as an example of how teams with seemingly little to play for can raise their game in crucial games for their opponents. The Reds manager also congratulated the Blues on retaining their top-flight status with one game remaining.
