The party was supposed to conduct its gubernatorial and House of Representatives in the South East, but has now shifted it to May 25 due to sit-at-home order.

The All Progressives Congress primary election exercise scheduled to hold in the South East on May 26 has been shifted.

The party was supposed to conduct its gubernatorial and House of Representatives in the South East, but has now shifted it to May 25 due to sit-at-home order.

Explaining why they shifted the date, the party said it was because of the “need to protect delegates who would be trooping out in their numbers to elect candidates in the five South-East states.”

In a statement put out by its National Vice-Chairman, Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, the reasons given cited the fact that the earlier slated date of May 26, 2022, had been declared as sit-at-home day and it had, thus, become imperative for the zone to consider first the safety of the party’s teeming supporters.

The statement went on to fix May 25 as the new date while apologising for any inconvenience such a shift may have had on party members and aspirants.

The latest development comes after the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) today said it will no longer allow rallies by the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other political parties in the South East.

The group made this known in a recent statement by its spokesperson Emma Powerful.

According to the group, the reason is because politicians are not bothered about insecurity in the region, but “only care about 2023”.

“We won’t allow APC and other political parties to continue to hold their rallies in our land while Fulani bandits operative with impunity kidnapping and raping our people, yet the politicians do nothing about it. All they care about is 2023. Enough is enough!” IPOB’s statement reads in part.
