Pep Guardiola, current manager of City referred to Manchester United's Premier League domination under Coach Alex Ferguson to emphasize how successful his Manchester City team has been in recent years ahead of Sunday's title-deciding match against Aston Villa.
Pep Guardiola has changed the Premier League and transformed Manchester City into an English football superpower since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium in 2016. If the Blues win all three points against Steven Gerrard's side on Sunday, he will win his fourth league title in five seasons.
Despite his team's repeating failures in Europe, the Spaniard has produced probably one of the strongest and most attractive sides on the pitch, with a combination of world-class quality across the pitch as well as academy stars like Phil Foden who have matured into vital first-team players.
Guardiola stated before of the match that City will have to rely on their older players who have previously been on the verge of Premier League triumph when they host Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
"What we are experiencing now is the result of previous events. As I previously stated, the second year (2017/18), when we scored 100 points, was the result of a lot of hard work from the previous season, when we failed to win.
"When I first came here (to City), everyone claimed the Premier League would be the most difficult; it is the most difficult, and everyone wins against various clubs."
Only Manchester United's Sir Alex Ferguson has won four league titles in five years. When it happens, you realize the magnitude of that United (team) during that particular period, and how they were able to accomplish so much.
"We're on the verge of doing it or being a part of it. We must make every effort to accept it. We'll attempt to do it, regardless of how fantastic it is to be in this situation."
