COLLINS OWUSU AMANKWAH WARNS THAT GHANA IS NOT EXEMPT FROM TERRORIST ATTACKS.
Collins Owusu Amankwah, a former NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia North, has warned Ghanaians not to take terrorist problems for granted.
Mr. Owusu Amankwah urged citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the proper security agencies in order to avert terrorist strikes in the country.
Islamic insurgencies have occurred in countries such as Togo, Mali, and Cote d'Ivoire, among others, providing warning signals to Ghana, while some security experts warn of terrorist infiltration.
At a press conference in Accra, Deputy Countrywide Security Coordinator Edward Kwaku Asomani said the government is initiating a national campaign called "See something, say something," in which the public is urged to call 999.
"All of the police accounts, including Twitter and Facebook, will be active." You do not have to identify yourself when you call since some people are concerned about identifying themselves while providing information," he said.
Mr. Owusu Amankwah, speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo," warned the nation that Ghana is not immune to terrorist assaults. He went on to say that while Ghana's international recognition as a haven of peace is wonderful news for the country, it also makes it a target for Islamic terrorist attacks.
"Ghana cannot grow complacent since it is not immune to terrorist strikes. Because we haven't experienced it, we can't declare that we are neutral in terms of our foreign policy objectives. Terrorist groups have no impartiality when it comes to causing havoc. As a result, our foreign policy goals will not save us "he said
"Those sheltering criminals must cease," Mr. Owusu Amankwah said.
He went on to say that while Ghana's international recognition as a haven of peace is wonderful news for the country, it also makes it a target for Islamic terrorist attacks.
