According to rumors in Spain, Pau Torres' agents will fly to Manchester this week to negotiate a deal with United, assuming a monetary arrangement can be reached with Villarreal. Despite reaching the Champions League final, the 25-year-old has been made available this summer due to the La Liga club's financial difficulties.
Although qualification for the UEFA Conference League was secured on the final day of the season, Unai Emery's side's league form suffered as a result of their strong European performance.
Villarreal's top players, notably Torres and Arnaut Danjuma, would prefer to play in the Champions League and may now pursue a transfer.Torres is one of the players up for grabs, according to Villarreal's local publication Deportes de Periodico Mediterraneo, and is valued at just £45 million.
United are reportedly interested, and the defender's agents, Tarraga and Fores, are eager to travel to Manchester as soon as this week to discuss a contract.Torres' release clause is worth £50 million, although Villarreal are willing to sell him for somewhat less in order to raise finances.
Real Madrid are also interested, although United are said to be the favorites to land the Spain international.
Torres is at ease on the ball, and new boss Erik ten Hag prefers his defenders to play out from the back.Last season, he was outstanding in the Europa League final Manchester United in Warsaw, which Villarreal won in a grueling penalty shootout.
Ten Hag, who spoke to the media for the first time on Monday, praised incumbent captain Maguire, despite the fact that he would have to establish his worth under the new manager.
I have to reiterate that next season will be different, but I think he did an excellent job," the Dutchman remarked.
"He's a fantastic player who has already made a significant impact to Manchester United. So I'm excited to collaborate with him.Torres would be a good match for England international and £40 million signing Raphael Varane, who is having a rough first season in England.
Jurrien Timber, an Ajax defender, is also said to be a target for United, who are in contact with Ten Hag's former player.
The player's agent indicated that a move to United could be on the verge of being completed by posting a photo of an airport on Instagram with the comment "Deal closing time.
United is likely to start working in the transfer window in the coming months, and Ten Hag will be given a substantial budget.
With up to five players expected to depart, United's team has a number of holes to fill, even without factoring the need for additional talent.
