Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo claims that Antoine Griezmann is one of the top three or four players in Europe and that he will continue with the Spanish club beyond this season.
Griezmann returned to Atletico in August after only two years at Barcelona on a two-year loan with the option to buy.
He has struggled to regain his earlier form with Atleti, scoring only eight goals in 35 games in all competitions.
Indeed, the France international has gone 14 games without a goal in LaLiga, just one game short of his worst drought in the competition.
Meanwhile, Griezmann's 13 direct goal assists rank fourth among Atletico players in 2021-22, behind Luis Suarez (15), Joao Felix (15), and Angel Correa (15). (15). (18).
Despite reports in the Spanish press that Atleti are hesitant to buy the 31-year-old altogether, Cerezo has stated that a deal is in the works.
"Griezmann is a key player for us. He has a contract with Atletico Madrid and will remain with the club "As reported by AS, he mentioned this during an event on Friday.
"In my opinion, Antoine is one of the three or four finest players in Europe."
According to Atletico Madrid, Suarez will leave Wanda Metropolitano at the end of the season.
They do, however, have Alvaro Morata on their books, since his two-year loan from Juventus expires after Saturday's Serie A encounter against Fiorentina.
Cerezo, unlike Griezmann, was more reserved when asked about Morata's future in Madrid.
He said, "I honestly don't know what will happen to him." "He's on our team, but I'm not sure what's going to happen. I'm not sure he'll stay with Juventus. We don't know."
This season, Atleti has conceded 42 goals in 37 LaLiga games, their worst single-season record since Diego Simeone took over in the middle of 2011-12.
Jan Oblak has had a particularly poor season, but Cerezo has refuted reports that he could move in the coming transfer window.
He remarked, "Everything is surrounded by gossip." "Jan has signed a goalkeeping contract with Atletico de Madrid. He can extend his contract for another ten years."
