Erik ten Hag is the manager of Manchester United.
Manchester United are considering a proposal for an Inter Milan defender who has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur – and the Red Devils appear to have a better chance of landing him.
New manager Erik ten Hag has arrived at Old Trafford and is set to rebuild a star-studded side, with Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo's futures still up in the air. Club captain Harry Maguire, on the other hand, has recently been mentioned as a candidate for a promotion.
The England international is the most expensive defender in history, but he has had a difficult season under interim manager Ralf Rangnick. Pau Torres, Ronald Araujo, and Jurrien Timber have all been mentioned as candidates to take his place in the side.
United is also considering Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. Since breaking into Serie A, the 23-year-old has been outstanding, and he might fetch over £50 million.
Due to Antonio Conte's ties with his former club, Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in signing the Italian. Bastoni is used to playing in a back three and would fit in nicely with the likes of Eric Dier and Cristian Romero in the Lilywhites' lineup.
Despite Tottenham's recent cash injection, United is thought to have the upper hand in this transfer.
The north Londoners announced on Tuesday afternoon that majority shareholder ENIC has agreed to a £150 million capital increase, which means Antonio Conte could have a lot of money to spend this summer.
Tottenham are on the lookout for midfielders, and would like to keep Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. Kane is unlikely to be linked with a move again this summer, having just told FourFourTwo exclusively how much he enjoys playing under Antonio Conte and how he wants to break Jimmy Greaves' all-time scoring record.
Transfermarkt estimates Alessandro Bastoni's worth at about £54 million.
Manchester United news continues
Erik ten Hag, the new manager of Manchester United, has been speaking to the press since taking over the club. The 52-year-old has stated that Cristiano Ronaldo is still in his plans for next season, but has hinted that transforming Old Trafford in his image may take time.
Christian Eriksen of Brentford, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is one slightly outlandish potential purchase.
