Chelsea report: Neymar positioned for a shift, with Blues aiming to make a remark signing
Chelsea is interested in signing Brazilian superstar Neymar, with PSG willing to sell their record signing.
The Blues' sale is expected to be approved in the coming days, and their focus has shifted to rebuilding their squad for next season. Big deals are required to rebuild a depleted defense, but if rumors are true, incoming owner Todd Boehly is reportedly interested in a statement signing.
Neymar would undoubtedly fit the bill and is reportedly available for a fraction of the £198 million he cost Paris Saint-Germain. Following the extension of Kylian Mbappe's contract, reports have surfaced that the World Cup winner wants his teammate sold this summer.
According to L'Equipe, the newly-crowned Ligue 1 champions are willing to sell the samba star – though he has no desire to leave.
However, after five years in Paris, the time may have come for a change. Neymar has yet to win the Ballon d'Or, which was thought to be a major motivator in his departure from Barcelona, and the Champions League trophy remains elusive after a final loss to Bayern Munich in Lisbon in 2020.
London may also suit his lifestyle, and Blues manager Thomas Tuchel has previously worked with Neymar.
Chelsea has already lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen this summer, both of whom left on free transfers. It is also possible that they will explore moves for new midfielders, If they can find a buyer for flop Romelu Lukaku, they may bring in a new left wing-back and a striker.
When asked about summer transfer plans, Tuchel said, "We are hoping [to be back to normal], but at the moment we are not." "You've asked several times if there's a delay in approaching players and making plans, and there is, of course, a huge delay." It has an impact on us; players are leaving. We are rebuilding rather than improving the team. We are currently rebuilding. This is always a challenge, but we are up for it."
This summer, a slew of players have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, and another possible target has emerged. Following the extension of Kylian Mbappe's contract at PSG, According to French newspaper L'Equipe, the Ligue 1 champions are willing to sell Neymar this summer.
While there has been no reported interest from Chelsea, it would be a transfer that would bring a 'X factor' to the Blues while reuniting the Brazilian with Tuchel, under whom he played in Paris. That could be a tempting offer for the 30-year-old, who has previously spoken highly of his former manager.
