Manchester United is said to have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to recruit potential Derby County striker Malcolm Ebiowei, who is 18 years old.

Despite being relegated from the Championship to League One, the young English striker has impressed for Derby this season. Because of financial difficulties, they were docked 21 points this season.

Due to the club's financial difficulties, Ebiowei signed a short-term contract with Derby last summer. He has 16 senior appearances under his belt, scoring one goal and assisting on two others.

The agreement is expected to expire this summer, allowing a variety of associated parties to enter the picture.

Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, and Crystal Palace are all keeping an eye on Ebiowei, according to the Mail.

Wayne Rooney, the manager at Pride Park and a former Manchester United player, offered Ebiowei his moment to shine, which he seized with gusto.

Rooney praised the 18-year-old striker for his abilities, saying (via Mail): "He's got a lot of potential.'

He's fearless, willing to take on players, be tackled, and make mistakes... His demeanour is good, and he's a promising young athlete."

Under Erik ten Hag, Manchester United may place a greater emphasis on youngsters.

Ralf Rangnick, a former Manchester United interim manager, has spoken out on the club's need to improve its recruitment.

Rangnick has reportedly blasted the Red Devils' transfer business in recent years, noting the wrong type of player being brought in, according to the Mirror.

He believes United is focusing on a short-term fix rather than a long-term solution. With players like Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, Edinson Cavani, 34, and Odion Ighalo, 31, in their ranks during the last three seasons, this is true.

As a result, new United manager Erik ten Hag may now try to pursue talent that can be developed over time, as he did at Ajax with great success.

Ten Hag has produced some of Europe's best players, including Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong, and Donny Van de Beek.

This season, Rangnick has already brought Anthony Elanga up through the United youth systems. Meanwhile, Hannibal Mejbri, Alvaro Fernandez, and Alejandro Garnaucho are all vying for a spot in the first team. Manchester United may have now realised the importance of devising a long-term strategy to return to the top of both domestic and European football.
