The Parliament of Ghana has made it clear to the public authority that there will be no monies supported to be utilized on any Covid-19 program except if the Finance Ministry represents what has been as of now utilized.
On Thursday, May 26, 2022, the director of the Finance Committee of Parliament moved a motion for a credit office of 75 million from the European Investment Bank by the Government of Ghana for another COVID-19 Response program.
Following the disappointment communicated by individuals from the board of trustees and individuals from Parliament, Speaker Alban Bagbin focused on that no endorsement will be given.
He said the Finance Ministry should initially represent cash supported for Covid costs over the most recent two years before any extra subsidies will be endorsed.
"I see that there is the reluctance of individuals to go with the panel until the monies that have been exhausted on Coronavirus are represented.
"To begin with, represent what has been given to you before we go on to support any modest cash," Speaker Alban Bagbin said.
The Speaker added, "We are distraught and we won't uphold government to go in for homegrown advance since it will be more costly. We are ready to assist the public authority with going in for such modest cash yet might you at some point generously let us know how you have utilized what has proactively been supported."
As per him, Parliament isn't against supporting cash for the public authority yet just needs to ensure each penny spent by the Finance Ministry is appropriately represented.
Hon. Alban Bagbin while addressing Parliament called the Finance Minister to show up before the house to represent all assets endorsed to cover Covid-19 costs amidst the pandemic.
"The Ministry of Finance should give a record of all the monies that it has gotten for the administration of COVID-19. Solely after that will this house think about endorsing or generally another credit."
