Jordan Henderson mocks Mohamed Salah's remark about Real Madrid.
Liverpool face Real Madrid in the Champions League final this weekend, and Jordan Henderson didn't hold back when responding to Mo Salah's claim ahead of the match in Paris.
Jordan Henderson, Liverpool's captain, teased Mohamed Salah ahead of the Reds' Champions League final against Real Madrid.
Jurgen Klopp's men face Real Madrid at the Stade de France on Saturday, hoping to win their seventh European title while denying Real their 14th.
It is the first time the two teams have met in a final since their meeting in Kyiv in 2018. The Spanish side won 3-1 that day, with Liverpool's star forward Mo Salah suffering a shoulder injury after colliding with Sergio Ramos. In the build-up to the game, the Liverpool man has expressed his desire for vengeance twice.
Salah tweeted after Real Madrid's comeback against Manchester City in the semi-finals earlier this season, "We have a score to settle."
He then followed up with another remark after being named FWA Footballer of the Year. "Yeah, I think it's revenge time," the forward wrote.
With a teasing quip during the Reds' pre-match press conference, Henderson has now had his say on Salah's revenge plot. "He didn't mean to say that, Mo?" he said.
Henderson then provided a relatively serious take on Salah's thoughts. "I can understand from Mo's viewpoint, it was a very emotional time, it was very tough for him and tough for everyone," he continued.
"However, I don't think you need any more motivation to win a Champions League final." It was your childhood dream to play big games, and they don't get any bigger than the Champions League final."
Following another stunning season at Anfield, Liverpool will undoubtedly hope to call on Salah's talents for a larger portion of the game this time around. The 29-year-old has 31 goals in all competitions this season, sharing the Premier League golden boot with Tottenham forward Son Heung-Min.
Only one player in Real Madrid's lineup has outscored Salah: French forward Karim Benzema. He has scored 42 goals this season and has been in outstanding form in the Champions League.
He has 15 goals in 11 appearances this season in the competition, including hat-tricks against both Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea en route to the final. The Frenchman also scored the last time Real Madrid faced Liverpool in a final.
He famously capitalized on a Loris Karius error to open the scoring for Spain. Sadio Mane equalized before Gareth Bale netted twice in the second half to secure the trophy.
