Now, on Saturday night in Paris, the two will compete for UEFA's prize trophy once more.
And regardless of what happens on the game, both clubs are likely to profit handsomely from the Champions League this season.Liverpool
Liverpool will earn a cool £93 million in prize money alone if they win the Champions League.
The Reds were paid £13.1 million for making it through the group stages. Each group stage win was worth £2.4 million, and each draw was worth £784,000.
The Reds earned extra £14.4 million by winning all of their group games.Liverpool earned money from UEFA as a result of their coefficient ranking.
Klopp's team was subsequently granted £8.1 million for reaching the knockout rounds and £9.1 million for reaching the quarter-finals by UEFA.Liverpool was awarded an additional £10.5 million for reaching the semi-finals and £13.1 million for reaching the final.
If they win, they will receive a further £3.8 million for winning the trophy and an additional £3 million for participating in the UEFA Super Cup.
This is simply the prize money they'll receive; it doesn't include broadcasting costs or the 30% cut they'll get from UEFA's award pool for coming second in the Premier League.Real Madrid is a Spanish football club based in
Real Madrid will generate more money than Liverpool even if they lose in Paris.
The key reason for this is their coefficient rating. The La Liga giants have been a constant presence in the Champions League, thus they are entitled to more money.
They will also receive additional money as a result of their previous tournament performances.
Real have won UEFA's top competition four times in the last ten years, earning more than Liverpool, who have reached the final three times in the last five.As a result, if Carlo Ancelotti's side loses, they will receive £98 million in prize money, while if they win, they would receive £102 million in prize money plus all broadcasting and matchday revenue.

Liverpool must enter this match as favorites after an extraordinary season in which they have already won two finals and played in every available match, losing only three in all competitions.
The Reds, on the other hand, will be aware of Real Madrid's incredible ability to comeback from defeat in this season's Champions League to reach the final in Paris.
Los Blancos were second best against PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester City, yet managed to beat each of them in spectacular fashion - proving that, even when trailing late in the game, Madrid can still win.Madrid's Karim Benzema, in particular, has the ability to be a match-winner, though Liverpool have enough of them and may even take inspiration from Manchester City's heroics in both legs of the semi-final, save for their stoppage-time collapse.
VERDICT: Liverpool, by Ben Knapton, Senior Reporter
What a difficult game to predict. Keeping the likes of Benzema, Vinicius Junior, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane at bay for 90 or 120 minutes is nearly impossible, and the Reds' attackers, in particular, should be confident of scoring a few goals against a shaky Blancos defense.Real's risky defensive stance will always leave them open to the quickness and cunning of Ancelotti's two Brazilian starboys, and Benzema only needs one half-chance to restore parity for Real.
We believe that Liverpool's recent experience from 12 yards will help them get their hands on Europe's biggest prize for the seventh time and put an end to Real's fairytale. Having Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho fit to start the game would be a huge boost for Klopp, whose side may be taken all the way to spot kicks again.
