Real Madrid comments could backfire as Liverpool get added Champions League final motivation

Real Madrid's player have made some peculiar comments about Liverpool this week, and the Reds can use those tactics against them in the Champions League final.

In some respects, it’s been a bizarre build up to the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Not bizarre in the sense of something weird occurring, but more in the fact that one side is attempting to throw shade at the other over an issue that isn’t actually happening, in an attempt to form a siege mentality.

"Liverpool have a lot of confidence," he told Movistar. "They think they have already won the match, maybe. Maybe they think this isn’t the same Real Madrid as last time, these things. Maybe they think they’re favourites."

But the irony is that this couldn’t be further from the truth. Yes, the fans believe that they can do that, and that Jürgen Klopp has the players to beat Madrid in a one-off game, but that shouldn’t be confused with over-confidence. You would have to be in the very foolish minority of the fan base, an issue that plagues all clubs unfortunately, to seriously believe that Liverpool are going to stroll into the Stade de France and swat Madrid aside like they are cannon fodder.

That simply doesn’t happen on any occasion, let alone a Champions League final.

In the build up to the final, Liverpool’s players, and Klopp, have been nothing but complimentary towards Madrid, as their reputation deserves, without being overtly cocky or confident about their own chances in the French capital.

Karim Benzema has come out this week and said that Liverpool are being too confident ahead of the final.
