Six people were apprehended in secret rooms at the NPP N/R executive election venue.

Six people were arrested by police at the NPP Northern Region delegate conference.

Outside the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, a gunshot was fired.

The National People's Party (NPP) has begun the process of electing regional executives.

Six people have reportedly been arrested at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium during the ongoing Northern Regional Delegate Conference to elect the regional executive of the ruling New Patriotic Party.

Five of the arrested people were discovered hiding in a room at the stadium, while the sixth was caught making a phone call in a secret room, according to adomonline.com.

Superintendent Bernard Baba Ananga, the Northern Regional Crime Officer, confirmed the detention of the six people in an interview with Joy News.

The six suspects were apprehended by the police, according to Superintendent Ananga, because they appeared to be planning a scuffle during the ongoing regional party elections.

The suspects have been taken to a nearby police station for questioning, he said.

Police are also investigating an earlier gunshot heard outside the delegate conference venue, according to Superintendent Ananga.

On Friday, May 27, 2022, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) began its regional delegates conference, which is expected to end on Sunday, May 29, 2022.

This is to elect new regional executives following constituency and polling station elections in April and March, respectively.

Some regions, such as the Ashanti, Eastern, Bono, Central, and Greater Accra, have already been identified as areas to watch for new entrants looking to unseat incumbents. Some members of the party in the Ashanti and Central Regions, for example, sought injunctions to move the election venue and to hold elections in the Ekumfi Constituency until further notice.

Prof. Martey delivers a public lecture.

He bemoans societal corruption.

Ghana is ranked low on the 2021 corruption index.

Former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev Prof. Emmanuel Martey, has lamented how corruption has become a way of life among the populace.

He is concerned that instead of speaking out against the practice, it has become so commonplace that people smile at the canker.

On Tuesday, May 24, Prof Martey said at the 140th anniversary of the Ascension congregation in Koforidua, "corruption in Ghana, the scourge has become the Ghanaian way of life, and people do not frown upon taking bribes, but rather smile at it."

He brought up the example of police corruption, claiming that officers smile when 'offenders' put their hands in their pockets. In the United States, police shoot when someone reaches for their pockets.

"For example, in America, if a police officer stops you while driving and you try to put your hands in your pockets, you will be shot and killed, whereas in Ghana, if a police officer stops you and you put your hand in your pocket, the police will start smiling," Prof Martey emphasized.

Ghana falls in the Corruption Perception Index.

According to the Corruption Perception Index, CPI, report released on April 4, Ghana ranked 73rd out of 180 countries in the 2021 edition of Transparency International's annual corruption ranking chart.

"Ghana's current performance is still below the expected average of 50, leaving much to be desired," the report said.

Ghana finished ninth out of 49 African countries, tied with Senegal, with a score of 43.
