Another thrilling campaign of European football came to an end with two of its giants, Real Madrid and Liverpool facing off at its peak to see it off with only one champion emerging who arguably were not the favorites in all things but for experience to lift this campaign’s trophy and that was just enough for the White angels to win it for the 14th time, the most by any European team.
The final was seen off with some unforeseen circumstances which saw the match kick off time extended by 30 minutes as fans, mostly of Liverpool had a hard time getting into the stadium and so resorted to forceful ways, jumping over fences, pushing their way through the gates where they were met with tear gases from securities.
The match eventually kicked off at 8pm GMT with the reds starting off on the front foot mounting pressure on Madrid deploying a high line of defense for the greater part of the first half but the white angels brought a towel big enough to soak it all in. Sadio Mane was denied by a brilliant piece of goalkeeping from the eventual man of the match winner Thibaut Courtois.
Liverpool threw everything they came with at the champions but wasn’t just enough to get past them. Real Madrid's very much expected one chance came and they took it but the final wont just come off without drama from the video Assistant Referee who ruled out the goal by this year’s hopeful and obvious winner of the Ballon D’or Karim Benzema, on what was a very much controversial offside position held by the goal scorer. This will definitely call for review of that offside rule.
Second half was carbon copy of the first only that this time, the goal scored in the 56th minute by Vinicius Junior stood and that was the white angels needed on the night. It all ended a goal to nil in favor of Madrid. Liverpool couldn’t get the revenge they hoped for. They could only beat about the Real Madrid goal, but couldn’t beat newly crowned champions of Europe.
