Dominic Kwame Ofori, popularly known as "Koliko," was 35 years old when he was stabbed numerous times with an object by his friend, Kofi Kwakye, 32, also known as "Tompoo," resulting in his instant death.

The event occurred on Sunday night in the Eastern Region's Akyem Achiase amid a ghetto brawl about who was the stronger of the two men.

When contacted by GhanaWeb, Supt. Patrick Gblorkpor, the Achiase District Police Commander, corroborated the story.

The police commander described the events leading up to the brutal murder, saying that disagreements over who was the stronger of the two men concluded in a struggle during which the suspect produced an instrument and stabbed the victim.

"They were in a slum, an area where people use drugs, and there was a misunderstanding between them over who was a strong man, thus the deceased Kwame Ofori was stabbed in the process," he claimed.

Kofi Kwakye fled the site after perpetrating the act, according to the police superintendent. He claimed that the community's youth, enraged by the occurrence, apprehended the suspect's girlfriend, Sophia Adjiri, 30, on suspicion of facilitating the suspect's escape from the community.

She's currently in police custody, aiding with investigations.

According to him, the deceased's mother, Akua Asantewaa, 55, reported the incident to the Achiase police department on Sunday night.

Supt. Patrick Gblorkpor went on to say that while the investigation into the suspect's arrest was underway, informants had been informed to trace his whereabouts in order to ensure that he was arrested and brought to justice.

An enraged neighborhood member who requested anonymity blasted the Achiase police, accusing them of passivity that allowed the area's ghettoes to flourish. She described how ghetto members attacked innocent bystanders and grabbed their goods with knives.

The commander, however, dismissed the charges, claiming that police performed regular swoops to target criminal hideouts. "We're always doing swoops, and when they [criminals] see us approaching, they flee." We've been doing swoops on a regular basis for the past two weeks," he explained.

In an interview, John Bamfo Amoah, a resident of the neighborhood and an eyewitness, presented a different account of the circumstances leading up to the catastrophe.

Kwakye accused Ofori of sleeping with his girlfriend, according to him. He went on to say that the two men had a fight at a galamsey site before the deadly occurrence when the suspect challenged his companion about the claims.

"They traveled to a galamsey location, and the suspect accused the dead of sleeping with his girlfriend," according to the report. This led to a struggle in which the deceased is said to have stabbed the suspect. The suspect then threatened that the fight would resume when they returned," the eyewitness continued, adding that the suspect, who was armed with a knife, had provoked the deceased into the most recent fight, in which he pulled out the knife and stabbed his friend multiple times, killing him instantly.

"The suspect stabbed him in the belly, stomach, chest, and slit his back, leaving his intestines flowing out," John Bamfo Amoah said.

The deceased's body was taken to the Oda Government Hospital for autopsy and preservation.
